What To Do When Doubt Creeps In

When you decide to play a bigger game in your career and leadership, it’s normal to experience a huge amount of energy, excitement and inspiration, soon followed by huge feelings of doubt and overwhelm.

Many of my private clients are surprised and thrown off-guard when feelings of doubt, fear and overwhelm begin to creep in.

Your feelings of doubt are indications that you’re stretching and challenging yourself by getting outside of your comfort zone. You are doing things differently to transform your career and achieve your radical career goal.

If you’ve been consistently taking inspired right action to bring your vision of success to life, you will experience feelings of doubt from time to time. This is normal.

Instead of allowing doubt to stop you from moving forward, implement these 3 strategies:

  1. Pray. Ask God to remove your feelings of doubt and replace them with increased faith. Enter into prayer with an open mind and humble heart knowing and expecting that your prayers will be answered.
  2. Tap into your support system. Have a heart-to-heart with a trusted accountability partner, whether that’s your colleague, mentor, coach, or close friend. Seek out their encouragement, support, feedback, advice or listening ear. When you’re so emotionally connected to your goals, you don’t always see things clearly.
  3. Focus on what you can control. Start with focusing on your thoughts, beliefs, energy and actions. Shift your attention internally and put 100% of your focus on the impact you want to make versus the results you want to achieve.
